83 arrested in Tennessee drug raid

A large drug bust occurred recently in Wilson County. During the raid over 80 people were arrested on various drug charges. These defendants are collectively facing 154 drug-related charges. The police claim they confiscated cocaine, marijuana, meth, prescription drugs, and heroin during the raid.

According to authorities, meth and prescription drugs are the drugs of choice for younger people. The Tennessee Senate is looking into placing greater restrictions on the amount of cold medicine containing meth making ingredients a person can buy each year without a prescription.

For those who have been arrested on drug related charges the legal system can be scary and confusing. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help defendants fight the drug charges. In many drug cases the constitutionality of the search that led to the seizure of the drugs is an issue. If defense counsel can persuade the court the search was unconstitutional, the drugs will be excluded from evidence at trial. An attorney can investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest, determine if prosecutors can prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt and work to get the court to reduce charges or dismiss them altogether.

Memphis residents who have been charged with a drug crime can face an uphill battle without aggressive representation. The media are quick to convict those who have only been accused. Personal and professional reputations can be ruined just by being arrested. Defendants who face these charges need to be able to tell their side of the story and protect their legal rights.
