Memphis residents know how emotionally charged allegations of online solicitation of minors can be. Those who are accused of this crime can have their reputation permanently ruined even if they are not convicted. Allegations of a sex offense are incredibly serious, given how there is generally only one chance for a defendant to tell his or her side of the story.

A woman in Jackson has been arrested for soliciting a teen girl online. Jackson police allege that this woman had been emailing nude pictures of herself to a 17-year-old girl. The girl’s mother contacted the police after learning that the girl had allegedly been having inappropriate communications with the woman. The woman was arrested at a local fast food restaurant. The 31-year-old woman is from Australia, but had been in the United States on an unrelated matter and later traveled to Tennessee, allegedly to meet the girl. She has been charged with solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor and is being held at a jail in Madison County.

Those who are accused of sex crimes can suffer permanent damage to reputation. If convicted of these crimes, defendants can be responsible for large fines and jail times along with being listed on the sex offender registry. Once listed on this notorious registry, a person may find getting a job to be almost impossible.

Since prosecutors in Tennessee aggressively pursue sexual crime charges it may be a good idea for those who are accused to seek the advice of a legal professional skilled in criminal law. An experienced and local attorney can help investigate the circumstances surrounding the allegations and help a person tell his or her side of the story before it’s too late.
