Sex crimes, such as rape, are serious allegations. Defendants who are convicted of such crimes face aggressive prosecution, long prison sentences and permanent damage to reputation.

A Memphis woman recently underwent a traumatic event when she was allegedly kidnapped, carjacked and raped by a man. While at her apartment in Horn Lake, a man allegedly pulled a gun on her and stole her car while she was still inside. While driving across the state line into Memphis he allegedly raped her. Then the suspect pulled over at Elvis Presley Boulevard and Scaife and allegedly raped her again. He then proceeded to take her back to her apartment complex and then drove away. The SUV was found by police with the suspect still driving it approximately 12 hours later near his apartment complex. The suspect’s bond has been set at $500,000.

Violent sex crimes such as rape are not tolerated by today’s society. However, many sex crimes are not as dramatic as the cases that make local headlines. Still, the truly horrific cases can easily overshadow all others and severely prejudice public opinion. When a person is arrested for a sex crime, the public often breathes a sigh of relief and ceremoniously throws away the key. A defendant needs to build a strong case for himself in order to circumvent the public’s opinion. A legal professional skilled in criminal law can help a defendant tell his or her side of the story. They can do an independent investigation of the crime, have polygraph experts and other expert witnesses including forensics.

Memphis residents have no tolerance for sex crimes and those who are convicted of them. A conviction can bring a lifetime on the sex offender registry and a permanent damage to a person’s reputation.
