Assaults in Memphis, while rare, do happen. Those who are accused of such crimes can face a myriad of charges. A defendant should know his or her legal rights and be prepared to tell his or her side of the story.

A Shelby County woman alleges that she was pulled over by a man who was impersonating a police officer. While driving in rural Shelby County, a four-door sedan with a blue light pulled her over. A white man came up to her vehicle and asked her to get out. He allegedly fondled the woman and then pillaged her car and stole several items out of it. Law enforcement officers are still searching for the suspect.

A person who is accused of a violent crime such as assault and robbery can face a long prison sentence and high fines if convicted. Assault charges are very serious and those accused can face uphill court battles. The public has no tolerance for violent crimes and tends to convict a suspect before he or she even appears in court. A defendant should take all steps necessary to develop a strong legal defense, acquire experts if needed and clearly tell his or her side of the story. Since a person only gets one chance to defend himself or herself, it is important that he or she do everything possible.

Memphis residents who find themselves accused of assault can face an uphill legal battle. Without a strong legal defense, they may find themselves saddled with a long prison sentence, fines and a tarnished personal and professional reputation.
