Optometrist from Memphis is severely beaten in alleged incident

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2013 | Violent Crimes |

Violent crimes, such as robbery, are not tolerated in Memphis. The community has an understanding that those who commit such crimes should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

A local Memphis optometrist was severely beaten and robbed recently in his neighborhood. The victim was reportedly followed into his gated community by two men. The two men attacked him inside his garage and took his cash and credit cards. The victim was able to make it into his house to call police while the two men fled the scene. The victim is in the hospital in critical condition because of his extensive injuries. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

A person who is charged with robbery can face an uphill court battle. The public’s perception of anyone who has been charged with such a crime is not good. Many times the accused are believed to be guilty well before they are actually convicted of a crime. When a crime is committed against a popular member of the community, such as the optometrist in this recent incident, the accused may face an even greater legal challenge. A sound criminal defense strategy can help a defendant tell his side of the story. Although the odds may seem to be stacked against him, it is important to defend legal rights. There are two sides to every story and the defendant may want to consider telling their story, possibly reducing or avoiding long prison sentences and other penalties.

A person who has been charged with robbery may think that the whole world is against him. They have one chance to hear “not guilty,” and it is important to make the most of that chance.
