Memphis man charged with drug crimes

Most people in Memphis find that drugs are not something that they want in their neighborhood. Drug crimes can hurt neighborhoods by bringing in increased crime and lowering property values. Drug crimes are aggressively prosecuted and a person who is convicted of these crimes can face stiff penalties.

A Memphis man was arrested during an undercover drug bust in Mississippi recently. He was in the car with another man and a 3-year-old when he was caught allegedly trying to sell drugs to an undercover officer. The man who was driving the car reportedly tried to run over a police officer when the deal went awry. That man was shot by police and later died at a local hospital. The other man was charged with child abuse, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held on a $100,000 bond, and his case is going to a grand jury.

When someone faces drug charges, they can be confused and scared about the charges. Because drug crimes are aggressively prosecuted, even a small amount of a drug in possession can lead to jail time and damage to a person's professional and personal reputation. A legal professional skilled in criminal defense can help these defendants tell their side of the story. They can investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest, determine if a search warrant was legally obtained and determine if the prosecution has enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to convict. They can also help negotiate a settlement outside the courtroom, if possible.

Drug crimes in Memphis are serious charges. A conviction can land a person in prison and include high fines. It is important for defendants to tell their side of the story to defend themselves and their reputation.
