According to recent media reports, police have arrested a paramedic and charged him for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient while on the job. The 38-year-old man is being accused of inappropriately touching a pregnant teenager whom an ambulance was transporting to the hospital.
The 17-year-old teenager alleges that the 38-year-old paramedic not only groped her, but at one point started asking her inappropriate questions of a sexual nature. She also claimed that the paramedic fondled her breast. The paramedic was the only one with her in the back of the ambulance while they were on their way to the hospital. Once the ambulance reached the hospital and the teenager was admitted to the delivery ward, she notified a nurse of the alleged incident. The nurse relayed these serious allegations to the police and the fire department where the paramedic worked.
Reports indicate that this was not the first time the man was accused of inappropriately touching a patient, however. He was accused of forcibly fondling another patient the previous year. However, when the charges were investigated by the department, he was cleared of any wrongdoing and the fire department did not institute any disciplinary measures related to those allegations.
The 38-year-old has been working at the city’s fire department since 2008. As result of the most recent incident, he currently faces a total of two sexual battery charges. Sex crime-related charges are a very serious and life-altering issue. Such charges should not be taken lightly by anyone. The potential ramifications of such allegations could be damage to one’s reputation, potential termination from employment, stigmatization and, if convicted criminally, potential registration as a sex offender.
