Holiday weekends have increased DWI patrols

With the summer holiday season upon us, it is important for Memphis residents to keep important laws in mind. As we discussed last week, a person who is found guilty of a DUI could face many charges, fines and even license revocations. It is best to play it safe so that the entire summer can be enjoyed.

With Memorial Day being the unofficial start of summer, the Tennessee Highway Patrol has announced that there will be extra patrols to assist in DUI enforcement. Because of the increased traffic on holiday weekends, the Memorial Day weekend will be a no-refusal weekend. There will be patrols in marked and unmarked cars, as well as checkpoints all across the state. Since it is a no-refusal weekend, no one will be allowed to refuse a breathalyzer test.

For those facing a DUI charge after the Memorial Day weekend, he or she may feel scared and confused. A DUI charge is very serious and can lead to high fines and license revocation. A legal professional skilled in criminal defense can help a person facing these serious charges know their rights. They can aggressively investigate the equipment used to administer the breath test, make sure the police had probable cause to pull you over and check to determine if any preexisting medical condition existed at the time.

A DUI charge is taken very seriously by law enforcement, so it is important that those facing a drunk driving charge also take it seriously. Initiating a defense against the allegations not only helps driver protect their rights, but it also allows for the opportunity to reduce or dismiss the charges against the driver.
