Most Memphis area residents have a zero tolerance for sex crimes. Even if a person’s name is just mentioned in connection with a sex crime, most of the public think of them as guilty. It can be hard for a person’s personal and professional reputation to recover from a sex crime allegation.

A former University of Tennessee lineman was arrested last week for a cyber crime. Police allege he engaged in an online conversation with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. In addition to the online chats he allegedly sent 4 pictures of his genitals to the girl. The football player was arrested when he was traveling to meet the girl, who turned out to be an investigator with the Pinellas County Sheriff Department in Florida. He has been charged with one count of using prohibited computer services and four counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor. All charges are felonies.

A sex crime allegation can lead to a lifetime of punishment, not just in jail time but also in the loss of a good personal and professional reputation. A sex crime conviction can destroy a person’s family life and career. If a person is facing a sex crime charge they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in criminal defense. An attorney can aggressively defend their client against these serious allegations. They can discretely work to effectively reach a resolution for their client. They can also bring in forensic and polygraph experts.

Sex crime allegations are very serious. Law enforcement aggressively prosecute those who have been charged. This is why it is of the utmost importance for those facing such charges to mount a vigorous defense.
