Memphis identified as third most dangerous city in U.S.

Memphis residents are probably familiar with the crimes that plague the city. Those who face allegations of serious crimes know that these crimes can be aggressively prosecuted. A criminal conviction can bring years in prison, along with fines, a criminal record and a ruined personal and professional reputation.

Recently released data by the FBI has shown that Memphis is the third most dangerous city in the U.S. It falls behind Detroit and Oakland in its rate of violent crime. Although the violent crime rate has fallen 5% this past year, Memphis moved up to third place from its fourth place position in 2012 among cities with over 200,000 residents. According to the FBI, in 2013 Memphis had 124 murders, 437 rapes, and 7200 aggravated assaults. This year Memphis has been plagued with a string of teen mob attacks. The mobs have allegedly attacked people at a Memphis Kroger, a UPS driver, and other bystanders. A city councilman is calling for more aggressive policing, stronger laws, and a better environment for kids.

With the high rate of violent crime in Memphis the public is demanding more to be done from the government. Those who are accused of violent crimes may encounter an aggressive prosecution and a public who will be quick to judge. A legal professional skilled in criminal defense can help a person who is accused of a violent crime. They can mount an aggressive defense that can include lie detector tests, expert witnesses, and negotiations with the prosecution. A felony can bring a defendant serious consequences so it is important that defendants do what it takes to tell their side of the story.

Memphis residents believe that violent crimes are not welcome in their neighborhood. Those who are accused of such crimes can face an aggressive prosecution and societal stigma.
